2026 Detroit Downriver Race

On July 25, 2026 the GIYC 68th Downriver Race was conducted.

Here is the Notice of Race and the Results

During the races 68-year history, the Flying Scot fleet have been regular participants in the race. The last 10 years participation has fallen off like many other races but in 2025 and 2026 boats from EBC and Detroit Community Sailing have participated and completed the distance race.

This race is different than many other Flying Scot races and presents many challenges to crews including changing wind conditions, current, navigation, and freighters. Probably the most challenging and unique aspect of the race is the distance. The race starts at the front of the Windsor Yacht Club and ends at Grosse Ilse Yacht Club. Race distance for handicapping purposes is 21.8 NM.

This year EBC had one entry, the Eaton Kelly, skippered by Steve McAuliffe and crewed by Lupe pictured below and John (not pictured) being towed to the starting line.

Looking forward to 2027 and continued participation in this fun and unique race. Mark your calendars!
