2026 Novice Sailing Class
- Time: Thursdays @ 6:00 PM
- On-land location (Sessions 1-3): Henrietta Haus, Hamtramck (Indoors)
- On (Rest of Season): Grayhaven State Harbor (On-the-Water)
- Prerequisite: None! Just a willingness to learn.
Indoor Fundamentals (Sessions 1-3)
Master terminology, wind awareness, and points of sail.
Learn boat parts, rigging, and essential safety practices..
On-the-Water Training
Hands-on practice at Grayhaven State Harbor.
Learn to hoist/trim sails, steer, tack, jibe, and balance the boat.
Teamwork & Roles
Rotate through all positions: Steering, handling lines, and coordinating maneuvers.
Build confidence communicating with a crew on a Flying Scot.
Hands-On Learning
We emphasize "learning by doing." You won't just watch—you'll be at the tiller and handling the lines.
Local Community
Meet fellow enthusiasts and join a historic Detroit sailing tradition.
Future Opportunities
Graduates leave ready to crew on club boats or pursue advanced sailing certifications.
