Jib, main, bow, stern?! Students are introduced to the language of sailing at first day of class.

Always wear your PFD on the dock

Our first in person session went off without a hitch on April 16th at Henrietta Haus. Over beer and pizza, John, Liza, and Raphael introduced the class to sailing jargon. That is the technical names of a sail boat.

Port is left and Starboard is right. I think?

Students learned the difference between ‘starboard’ and ‘port’. Remember port wine is red. Also, the different parts of the sail. Remember why the boom is called boom so watch your head.

Next Thursday, lectures will continue on on water safety, safety equipment, and more advanced concepts. Also, we will be quizzing you on those technical names so study, study, study.

FYI, we hope to post the class materials on the website.

See you next week.
